Rudrapur – In a significant meeting held today at the DGM office, former MLA Rajkumar Thukral, along with farmer leader Thakur Jagdish Singh, brought local electricity concerns to the attention of two senior officials, Executive Engineer (Electric Testing) K.K. Pant and Executive Engineer (Power Distribution Division-I) Rakesh Kumar.
During the discussion, Thukral publicly questioned the officials on whether there had been any government orders to halt the installation of prepaid electronic meters. Both officials denied the existence of any such directive.
The officials further informed the delegation that over 15,000 prepaid electronic meters had already arrived in the Sidcul area and Fauji Matkota, specifically for two large warehouses. However, Thukral and Singh expressed strong opposition to the implementation of prepaid meters in Rudrapur, arguing that the district should not be treated as a testing ground for the state. They demanded that the meters first be installed in larger cities across Uttarakhand.
The delegation emphasized the need to create public awareness about the use of prepaid meters and warned against forcibly installing them in underprivileged areas, where resistance from the community is likely.
Several local residents, including Raghuraj Singh Rawat, Ajay Narayan Singh, Lalit Singh Bisht, Happy Chauhan, Sukhwant Singh Virk, Rajkumar Bhusri, Anand Sharma, Arvind Yadav, and Bunty Koli, were present during the meeting and voiced their concerns.
