Construction of Chhatarpur Omaxe Railway Underpass Begins in Rudrapur

Rudrapur: The long-awaited construction of the Chhatarpur Omaxe Railway underpass commenced today after receiving approval from the district administration. The inaugural ceremony was led by former Mayor Rampal Singh, ex-BJP Kisan Morcha State President Anil Chauhan, and Thakur Jagdish Singh, with the underpass work being symbolically initiated by young Nandani, who broke a coconut to mark the occasion. Sweets were distributed to celebrate this significant development.

For years, local leaders such as Thakur Jagdish Singh, Gyan Singh Chauhan, Devendra Singh Bamal, and Keshav Sharma have been advocating for the construction of this underpass, which is set to benefit around 30,000 residents from nearby villages. These leaders, who played a critical role in pushing for the project, were honored with garlands and sweets during the event.

Former Mayor Rampal Singh expressed gratitude to the state government, acknowledging Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, MP Ajay Bhatt, and Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bahuguna for their support. He mentioned that the issue had been discussed in detail during meetings, leading to the district administration granting permission to begin work. The construction officially kicked off with the deployment of JCB machines.

Anil Chauhan, former president of the BJP Kisan Morcha, recalled his long-standing struggle for the underpass, which he had been advocating for since his tenure as Bhurarani’s village head. He emphasized that the underpass is a public welfare issue affecting thousands and that its construction is a major achievement for the central government.

Thakur Jagdish Singh highlighted the significance of the underpass, noting that it will connect Chhatarpur Road to Nainital Road, thus easing traffic and improving access to vital areas like SIDCUL, the District Hospital, Pantnagar Airport, and Haldwani. Currently, the absence of a proper route forces many cyclists and motorcyclists to take dangerous shortcuts over railway tracks.

The underpass, in development since 2007, will provide much-needed relief to Rudrapur by reducing congestion and offering smoother travel for residents to key locations like sports stadiums, temples, and business hubs. Local leaders expressed their appreciation to the administration for finally kickstarting the project, noting the important role of community support, especially from women and youth, in achieving this milestone.

Several community members and leaders were present during the ceremony, including Satyendra Sharma, Ajay Chauhan, Sunil Kumar, Rajesh Sharma, and many others.
